I suspect churches like Calvary Chapel call themselves "non-denominational" simply as a way of shedding themselves of the baggage of their own histories. They want to remove all that history, all that tradition, all that troublesome stuff that their laity need not worry themselves about, just chuck it all, and claim they are the set of pure believers, untainted with worldly traditions, but just simply love Jesus. Great way of shedding yourself of tradition. Just ignore it and pretend it is not there. <br /><br />"Maybe if we are quiet, nobody will notice"HeIsSailinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09154368305822276669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2923191003698738067.post-24448102818297667852012-12-06T21:50:19.430-07:002012-12-06T21:50:19.430-07:00Somehow I didn't see that you had posted this ...Somehow I didn't see that you had posted this installment. I could identify with all your prior assumptions about sola scriptura as well as the Catholic faith. It is a bit of shock to discover we actually have tradition too. In the church of Christ, we are so opposed to the idea of tradition that we even reject the idea that we're a denomination. This is why the "c" in church isn't capitalized. We like to say we were founded in 33 AD! How's that for denying the entire context of your religion? Someone close to me lived 3 years in Texas before finding a church they could actually be part of, for many of the reasons you give here. It was a Mennonite Church.unkleEhttp://www.is-there-a-god.info/blognoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2923191003698738067.post-79981558159106076332012-11-28T16:39:48.288-07:002012-11-28T16:39:48.288-07:00Still reading. :-)
